Local farmers ask “what’s the beef” with getting better beef
A group of local farmers hope to settle a “beef” about better beef with the launch of an innovative new business at the Glenreagh Timber Festival today.
Big River Beef Chairman George Bennett said the group of like-minded and innovative beef cattle producers all from Northern NSW were launching a home delivery service which promised top quality and affordable beef.
“Big River Beef is a group of farmers who share a passion” Mr Bennett said.
Mr Bennett said the farmers had decided to work together to market their beef directly to the community after becoming frustrated with the inconsistent quality of beef being sold to the average Australian household.
“Our Meat Standards Australia (MSA) accredited beef means it is consistently high quality. We were seeing all different ranges of quality being sold at the same or in most cases higher prices than our’s which meant the average family was missing out” Mr Bennett.
“In the current economic climate it’s even more important that everyday Australians have affordable options to feed their families and there is no reason why quality should be sacrificed.
“What we are offering may sound ambitious but we know we can deliver. We promise better beef – better taste better for the budget and better for the environment.
“Our vision is to give the average Australian household the opportunity to experience consistent high quality and affordable beef delivered to their door. The same experience we get to have every day as beef producers.
“As wholesalers we offer affordable pricing options to suit every budget. This includes weekly or fortnightly payments. On top of this we are local farmers so the profits go straight back into supporting local communities.
“Our beef is approximately 40% cheaper than the average beef prices in major supermarkets. A quarter of a yearling will feed the average family 3 meals of beef per week over five months and averages out $25 per week.”
Mr Bennett said the MSA graded tender beef was also hormone and antibiotic free.
“We are committed to providing a consistent high quality product and our innovative and natural farming practices aim to leave our land in a better condition then we found it.
“We manage our farms in an environmentally friendly manner that ensures a future for our families for generations to come.”
